Aunt changes her 2-year-old niece's name after becoming her legal guardian, refusing to call the baby 'Synnamin' despite family pressure: 'My parents fought me on it... Don't care'

She never acknowledged her sister's bad choice of baby names until her niece became her legal offspring. 

This aunt changed her niece's birth name the moment she got legal custody of the child. Without a second glance at her sister's wishes, she decided to formally change the namesake of the baby now in her care, hoping to set her up for a smoother life with fewer inquisitions about the meaning of the name, "Synnamin" (pronounced "Cinnamon"). 

Now, while it may have been well-intentioned to name the child this way, highlighting the baby's warmth and spice, the sister failed to realize how that might sound as an adult. To save poor Synnamin from a lifetime of being mistaken for a lady of the night, the aunt stepped in and changed it to something more reputable, a real name, if you will: Simone. 

Becoming a mom doesn't suddenly imbibe adult women with the knowledge and wherewithal of a wise matriarch. Some moms give birth to children and still act like children themselves, yet their decisions will affect the lives of a little one for the rest of their days. In the hospital, when a mother is given the choice to name their baby, that choice is going to follow that young person for the rest of their existence, chasing them around and haunting their passports for all time. 

So moms, please choose a baby name befitting of a human person, because although your little nugget is an adorable, cherubic baby now, they'll grow up to be kids, teens, then eventually adults, and they'll need a name befitting all stages of life.

Insisting on straying from tried-and-true names like John or Sarah, modern parents insist on making their child's namesake more special than the names of the past.
